About Nicholas Saputra :

Barely 6 years ago, he’s just an ordinary unknown high school student. Only with one movie in 2002 when he’s just turn 17 years old he’s becoming a super star and famous everywhere yet people scarcely know him in depth.

What makes him so mysterious yet many respect him?

He avoids publication that he called ‘sometimes silly and makes fool everyone’. Once there was a reporter from Hai Mag had this experience in interviewing him and it ended with her crying after, since he behaved mean, cold and moody a long the session. He refused to write down his bio and said it was boring.

He’s always associated with the character of Rangga, a character from his first movie as: cold, stubborn, disagreeable, introvert and cynical and apathies. He rarely smiles and seems always has this serious expression every time we see his pictures on TV/newspapers. In fact we seldom find good pictures of him like any other actors (you know; smiles, dandy, freshly, cheerful gestures).

If you notice him, he feels uncomfortable and awkward when the hosts try to make a joke in cherishing the atmosphere. He sits with freeze gesture and never try to look at the camera. His eyes just direct to the floor and his companion whom he talks with. If there’s a question by phone from peeps that sometimes sounds silly his answers aren’t enthusiastic or he’ll let his companion to answer instead.

Once, his high school teachers being interviewed said that he was a quiet boy and intelligent student as well (one of the Top 3 best students in whole high school).

In the other hand, colleague at Prambors FM - where Nico worked as a temporary DJ - said that he’s an amiable person and funny. My friend at the same faculty with Nico said he’s actually funny and has a good sense of humor in real life. He’s clever, ambitious and hates cheap publicity.

There once happened, when he just came back from Brunei after promoting the movie, the media asked him about the rumor between him and princess of Brunei. Even though he didn’t meet the princess the press pushed him regarding the rumor just to have gossip news about him.

Hence for all this time Nicholas Saputra (25) never wants to have interview about his personal life. According to Bintang Indonesia he believes there are still a lot more things to give for the public instead his personal life. “There’s a lot of things I can tell despite my personal matters, “ he said. He doesn’t care if the media consider him arrogant and too desirous exclusive. “No problem. I have this faith never give the public cheap gossips. I should give them something more useful, otherwise.”

He also adds the people of Indonesia should get more education through mass media. If the media just performs cheesy gossip news, they don’t educate people but moron them instead. “It’s time for the Indonesian to get better and useful information,” said he firmly.

But don’t get him wrong. He’s not as cold as people think!

But, letters from fans are out of his awareness. You must see how a letter from fan (sent to UI adress) was abandoned in campus.

How did he become an actor?

Being an actor was way out of his mind. He determined to become an architect since little boy (and he’s making it now by studying architecture at University of Indonesia) because of the supporting environment has surrounded him in early age. His family and neighborhood have good high education background. But he also took the chance as a freelance model for teen magazine.

In 1999 he watched a breakthrough musical film in Indonesia ‘Sherina’s adventure’ (starring: Sherina Munaf, a talented little girl) and this movie has left him deep impression. He gave credit to the director Riri Riza and producer Mira Lesmana. So when in 2002 Mira Lesmana held an audition for the movie ‘AADC’ (What’s Up With Love) he was very excited to join it. Well actually Mira was the one who discovered him after reading a teen magazine. Her eyes strucked at the eyes of this boy. She said the first impression for him is ‘His eyes talk’. He passed the audition and the rest is history.

If Nicholas Saputra were your average teen idol, he would have showed up in many prime times Sinetron (local soap operas) or the other entire click’s we have become familiar with.
He would also have appeared on the covers of every teen magazine, probably talking about whom he just broke up with, or who he is dating.
Then, he would probably have gathered two or three good-looking stars and formed a boy band, and gave hell to the music engineer to fix all the out-of-key vocals.

Fortunately, the 18-year-old actor does not feel like cashing in on his status as the country's most sought-after teen icon. Rather, to be exact, he has yet to let himself be exploited by cheap publications and crass commercialism.
Before his name landed at the top of fans' and producers' dream list, Nicholas was a born star waiting to be discovered.
It was his role as a quiet high school student with a taste for poetry in the teen romance hit, Ada Apa Dengan Cinta? (What's Up With Love?), last year which introduced his talent to the public and catapulted his name to stardom.

Born on February 24, 1984, Nicholas, or Nico as he is better known, could be the answer to the country's search for a real teen idol. Intelligent, disturbingly good-looking and unpretentious, he has little or no appetite for popularity.
To colleagues and friends, Nico is a fun person to be with, and is down-to-earth with a witty sense of humor.
